Back in the swing of things
Filed under (Training Log) by Kevin @ 02:50 pm

It feels amazing to have the vibrant energy I am used to restored.  It is as though the last several months I was entrenched in a dust cloud and blind optimism kept me on coarse, albeit, I kept crashing.
I am now humbly attempting to get my 173 pound body back in shape.  I like to be under 160 lbs. on race day so I’m carrying a few extra for ‘training’ purposes.  I sure notice it while I am running, the double impact from having a cardio system that is out of practice and carrying at least an extra 10 lbs. is a challenge.  I have had to start out with 2 and 3 mile runs, that tax my legs and lungs.  But hey, I have a whole 5 months before my next Tri, so I have plenty of time.
A whole 5 months, jeeish, it has already been 3 months since my last big Tri.  I’m going to have to find some swim meets and or fun runs to compete in this winter.  It always helps put some focus in your training by having some goal competitions on the horizon.  I’d like to see what I can do in the 200 IM, 200 Fr, 500 Fr, maybe the 200 fly and 400 IM if I get enough time in the pool.
This was my first week back to any structured Tri training.  I have done some recreational activities the last month that amounted to some exercising but it was for the pure joy of being outside and being active.  The way all my ‘training’ should feel and often times does.  The biggest reason it isn’t utter joy is when the day is too busy and I feel rushed to get it all in.  This is the first week were I have done 2 and 3 disciplines in one day and I am thrilled to be able to do this and still have energy afterwards.  I am doing my best not to take things for granted by appreciating my health everyday.
